A History as Old as Civilization

Castor oil is one of the oldest known medicinal substances on earth. Archaeologists have found castor oil in Egyptian tombs dating back over 4,000 years, used as fuel for lamps, as a topical remedy, and as a treatment for eye irritation. Ancient Egyptians called it kiki and valued it as a powerful healing agent.

How Castor Oil Is Made

The seeds are mechanically pressed at low temperatures — no heat, no chemical solvents — to extract the oil while preserving its full nutrient profile. The star of the show is ricinoleic acid — a rare fatty acid that makes up approximately 90% of castor oil's composition. Ricinoleic acid is found almost nowhere else in nature at this concentration, and it's responsible for most of castor oil's remarkable properties.
