About the Ingredients

For most of my life I have been making my own skin and body care, growing herbs, and studying Western Herbalism and Holistic Nutrition. What we put on our bodies matters as much as what we put in them, and because of this I have always seemed to struggle with finding a simple and affordable way to care for my skin and hair in a simple sustainable way. Lots of products claim to be clean, and yet we find ingredients unpronounceable on the label.

I love creating my own products because, well, it’s magic every time I unmold a loaf of soap, or whip up the perfect balm. I know exactly what is in that product, I know every single ingredient is there for a reason, and I can recreate it in a way that makes caring for myself simple, sustainable, and affordable.

Listen, I love a pretty bar of soap or bath bomb as much as the next gal...but I don’t love all those synthetic fragrances and colorants. For me it’s not necessary to the enjoyment of a beautiful bar of soap (that won’t clog my drain with dried flowers...). You can be assured that every element to each product I make is thoughtfully considered, weighed against other options, sustainably sourced, and 100% organic and/or cold pressed. I make everything small batch with the cleanest ingredients available.

These soaps and whips are a love story to the skin, inviting a retreat, if even just for a moment, from the fast paced lives most of us are living. Every scent is not only natural, but therapeutic. Every colorant from nature, and there for more than just looks. I hope you enjoy these offerings as much as I enjoy making them, and I always welcome feedback and suggestions!

Please note: I only recommend unscented products on babies and very young children and those with very sensitive skin. Essential oils are not appropriate for babies, pets, or very small children.

Tallow Soap

A simple, skin friendly formula that is soothing for all skin types. Gentle and moisturizing, tallow creates a velvety base for soap that doesn’t strip skin. There’s enough slide and lather in this bar to shave with, and I have personally replaced shave cream, body wash, and face wash with one bar. Bada boom. Castor oil and coconut oil provide hardness, moisture, and balance the bar for a long lasting soap that cleanses well while maintaining moisture and leaving a soft skin feel. Gentle enough for littles, but it is still soap, so stay away from eyes.

Beef Tallow- 100% organic and grass-fed, our tallow is sustainably sourced and high quality. Makes for a beautiful bar of soap that is not too hard or soft, and will last a long time. Beef tallow has a lipid (fat) makeup that is nutrient dense and identical to human sebum, making it a wonderful choice for skincare. Comedogenic rating of 0-2 (very low risk of clogging pores, almost nil if applied to clean skin)

Castor Oil-100% organic and cold-pressed/hexane free, castor oil imparts a velvety and rich lather to soaps and shampoos. The high viscosity of this oil makes it a great choice for creating a protective barrier for skin, preserving moisture in topical products. Castor oil is rich in fatty acids, antioxidants, is antimicrobial, and may help in collagen production. Great for sensitive skin and can aid in healing skin conditions like eczema, castor oil is a no-brainer addition to any skin product for its many benefits and wide spectrum of safe use. Comedogenic rating of 1 (extremely low risk of clogging pores)

Coconut Oil-100% organic and unrefined, coconut oil is popular in soap formulations due to its many skin benefits, sustainability, accessibility, and the buttery feel it lends to soap bars. Coconut contributes hardness and longevity factors to soap formulations, and is anti-microbial, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and astringent. In soap, coconut oil is very cleansing without drying. In topical application, it imparts many anti-aging, scar healing, and anti-microbial properties while providing a nourishing protective barrier to the elements.

Beeswax & Honey- adds longevity and moisture to the bar in a natural and therapeutic way. Always organic and sustainably sourced.

Tallow Shampoo Bar

Incorporating olive oil infused with nettles for strength, and mallow for softness and volume, this shampoo bar will nurture the scalp and aid in preventing breakage and hair fall. The absence of harsh chemical ingredients and silicones allow the skin and hair to come into balance while the essential oil blend of peppermint, rosemary, tea tree, and lavender help soothe the scalp and restore its natural potential, eliminating the need for conditioner for most. Aloe and clay heal, clarify, and tone. A fantastic travel option, just throw in your bag and you’re set! Lasts approximately 35-40 shampoos.

Olive Oil -100%organic and cold pressed, olive oil is replete in skin loving nutrients providing anti- aging, anti-inflammatory, healing and hydration, cleansing, and wound healing properties. Used for centuries in skin and hair care, this is a rich and widely safe addition to any skincare routine. In soap and shampoo, it imparts a lovely skin feel and combats some of the drying that some soaps produce as well as providing a soft lather. In our shampoo bar, olive oil helps combat frizz and split end causing dryness with deeply moisturizing properties.

infused with Nettle-used in hair care for ages, nettle can prevent hair loss and promote growth. Rich in minerals and nutrients, nettle can help strengthen the hair shaft, regulate oil production, calm down irritated scalp, and add shine.

and Marshmallow Leaf-is mucigenic, meaning it creates a gentle and natural barrier to the hair shaft. This can aid in retaining moisture, preventing breakage, soothing scalp issues, detangling, and creating a lovely soft texture for styling.

European Red Clay-Deeply cleansing and detoxifying, this clean sourced conditioning red clay can help re-mineralize and revitalize hair and scalp, add volume to thinner hair types, prevent hair loss and encourage growth, balance oil production, gently exfoliate, and combat dandruff. Clay also adds a desirable texture to bar soaps and shampoos, aiding in detangling and conditioning.

Aloe Leaf - A natural humectant, aloe moisturizes and combats frizz without weight. Ideal for all hair types, aloe is a treat for the scalp with its moisturizing and balancing properties. Rich in vitamins and soothing compounds, aloe can help correct inflammatory scalp conditions as well and strengthen and protect strands. Only organic and high quality aloe is used in our shampoo bars.

Essential Oils- available only in one hair and scalp specific essential oil blend, formulated to eliminate hair fall and breakage, and nurture scalp and promote growth. Lavender, peppermint, tea tree, and clinically proven rosemary.

Tallow Body + Face Balm

Is having a moment right now, and for good reason! Tallow is bio-identical to our skin’s acid mantle, providing a long lasting moisture that absorbs quickly and leaves an incredibly soft and silky skin feel that soothes rough and sensitive skin. Packed with nutrients only to be found in animal products, vitamins A, D, E, and K deeply nurture and heal. Whipped lightly with a bit of castor for added moisture and healing, sunflower and arrowroot for its anti-inflammatory and deodorizing properties, this formula will convert you forever to the virtues of tallow and clean skin care. Try as a natural diaper cream for littles (without essential oils, No Bull), or as an ongoing treatment to help with eczema or acne, this tallow blend contains no petroleum ingredients or synthetic anything.

Sunflower Oil- This isn’t your grocery store hydrogenated nightmare. The combination gives skin a long-lasting velvety soft moisture that isn’t greasy or heavy. Sunflower is also known to be softening, acne-combating, antiaging and antimicrobial, and can aid in wound healing and protection. Castor Oil-100% organic and cold-pressed/hexane free, castor oil facilitates a deep moisture in skin balms that is unbeatable. The high viscosity of this oil makes it a great choice for creating a protective barrier for skin, preserving moisture in topical products. I add it to this blend primarily because it is a powerful deodorizer and absorbs excess oil, keeping you feeling fresh and moisturized all day. Skin nourishing and soothing, this is a great choice for almost all skin types, and the unscented blend can even be used to great effect with skin rashes and diaper rash.

Beeswax-100% organic beeswax is a tried and true ingredient for skincare products that require a more solid texture (ie deodorant, pomade). Probably the most natural option available to create solid textures, but also providing many great benefits on its own. Beeswax creates a powerful barrier for skin, keeping moisture in. This is especially beneficial in cold, dry climates, aiding the skin in healing itself by preventing cracking. Beeswax is softening to the skin, and is anti aging, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, and promotes cell regeneration. It is also a prized moisturizer, as our skin does absorb beeswax, although very slowly compared to other fats and oils. This creates a very long lasting moisture, cutting down on the need for constant application. Comedogenic rating of 0-2, meaning it will not/is highly unlikely to clog pores.

Tallow Lotion Bar

With a heavy base of tallow and shea butter, this incredibly emollient formula goes on thick and absorbs more slowly to provide heavy moisture to cracked or rough skin. A great option for on the go and travel (a little bit goes a long way!), or skin that needs extra love. The thick nature of this bar helps give ailing skin a chance at healing and provides much needed protection from the elements with the addition of beeswax as a barrier.

Shea Butter-Intensely moisturizing and emollient, shea butter is a rich source of fatty acids, nutrients, and antioxidants. Unrefined and organic, shea butter may reduce appearance of scars and wrinkles as well as offering some SPF value. With a comedogenic rating of 0-2, shea butter is friendly to all skin types and is highly unlikely to clog pores. With the addition of shea butter to this formula, expect a thicker application, heavier feel for a longer amount of time before it absorbs. Think cracked heels and chapped areas that need extra love. Apply a much thinner amount for regular moisturizing.

For Tinted Lip Balm only:

Moroccan Red Clay-Primarily in this formulation for color, this clay can also provide gentle exfoliation and smooth the skin on and around the lips. Moroccan Red Clay has smoothing and softening qualities, making it an excellent choice for tinting lip balm.

Mica Powder-The only ingredient in any of my formulations that is here just for color, I love having just a touch of this natural and ethically sourced mineral in the tinted lip balm for its lovely luster.

Deodorant

Deodorant should be clean and effective. This deodorant does both while nurturing the sensitive skin of our underarms without contributing questionable chemicals to our overall toxin exposure. No sweat gland blocking ingredients here, just vitamin-rich elements to neutralize odor while letting your skin breathe and function as it should. Naturally.

I add it to this blend primarily because it is a powerful deodorizer and absorbs excess oil, keeping you feeling fresh and moisturized all day. Skin nourishing and soothing, this is a great choice for almost all skin types. Arrowroot is a prized deodorizer in blends for its effectiveness and skin benefits.

Magnesium Hydroxide-an anhydrous form of magnesium (meaning it can be used in oil based formulas), arguably the most effective deodorizing magnesium and one very well tolerated by those with sensitive skin. The rockstar in this formula, magnesium provides a heathy and beneficial barrier and neutralization to odor.

Zinc Oxide-you know this one in sun block as a natural mineral barrier for prolonged sun exposure and protection...it’s also an amazing odor neutralizing ingredient! This mineral can leave a bit of a haze, so do rub in thicker applications to minimize risk of hazing your clothes.

Zeolite Clay-popular for its toxin seeking properties, a high quality zeolite will selectively bind to heavy metals. This not only aids in detoxifying a very vulnerable part of the body, but helps neutralize the very toxins that contribute to odor.

Essential Oils of Lavender + Sage-both known for soothing and antimicrobial properties, also lends a subtle earthy scent most love and tolerate very well.

Sun Stick

We need healthy amounts of sun. Like all other life on the planet we share, sunlight feeds our cells and our souls. Within reason, sunlight can cure all manner of ills and moods...but when you need some protection from prolonged sun, we gotchu. OTC sunscreens are replete with questionable chemical ingredients that clog, toxify, and react with other chemicals and chlorine. Zinc oxide is a known natural mineral barrier to harmful UV rays without the concern. Love the sun with care, and feed that skin!

Cocoa + Mango Butter-organic cocoa and mango butters lend their own natural SPF, highly moisturizing qualities, and delightfully subtle scent to the base formula. Slightly more comedogenic, but in the small amounts in this formula, unlikely to cause issues.

Zinc Oxide-the star of the show in our Sun Stick, zinc oxide is a natural mineral barrier to UV rays. While we do need sunlight for health, prolonged exposure can be harmful over time. Zinc Oxide can provide the barrier we need without all the chemicals and questionable ingredients so common to most sun blocking products. The addition of 10% zinc oxide in this formula provides approximately 30 SPF. This ingredient can create a light white haze, so rub in for appearance and to be mindful of clothing. Keep in mind thinner applications confer less barrier.

Tallow Face Balm

A luxurious, nutrient-rich face cream designed to support youthful, radiant skin. Grass-fed tallow infused with hibiscus and calendula pair with bakuchiol oil-a natural retinol alternative- to deliver deep moisture and maintain skin elasticity without irritation.

Rosehip seed oil and black seed oil are packed with antioxidants and fatty acids that help repair and renew delicate face and eye tissue. The earthy blend of carrot seed, ylang ylang, frankincense, and geranium essential oils further enhance skin tone, encouraging cell regeneration, and restoring a healthy glow. Hibiscus-Hibiscus sabdariffa is prized for its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and skin firming properties. Rich in vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy acids, helping fade hyperpigmentation and scarring. Hibiscus is what gives our face balm it’s lovely pink/brown color, and has been shown in studies to have stronger anti-oxidant action than synthetic cosmetics. Inhibits collagen and elastin breakdown and may inhibit melanin production in dark spots, evening tone.

Calendula-Calendula officinalis, or marigold, is one of the most researched and clinically backed botanicals aside from hibiscus. Especially loved for mature and sensitive skin, calendula is a powerful skin healer and regenerator. A strong stimulator of collagen production, this beloved flower can visible reduce the appearance of scarring, crepey skin, and fine lines. Protects against UV damage, and highly anti-inflammatory and oxidative, calendula can significantly hinder the every day effects of aging and glycation. Antimicrobial and brightening, this is an uplifting addition for any skin type.

Bakuchiol Oil-the queen of studied botanicals for anti-aging, Psoralea corylifolia is referred to as “nature’s retinol”, and for good reason. Bakuchiol can dramatically reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase elasticity, fade hyperpigmentation, improve firmness, and reduce the size of pores. A boon to mature and young skin, this is the wise grandmother of the formula, working closely with tallow to transform and protect naturally.

Rosehip Seed Oil-another clinically proven botanical for aging skin, rosehip seed oil is soothing, healing, brightening, and protecting. A potent anti-oxidant and collagen stimulator, rosehip seed boosts cell turnover and reduces redness and inflammation.

Black Seed Oil-an Ayurvedic gem, ‘the cure for everything except death’, and an effective botanical botox. Powerfully anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, black seed repairs, reduces and calms acne and eczema in addition to improving elasticity and the appearance of deep wrinkles. Truly a wonder for all skin types, and a deeply nurturing and healing addition to this blend.

Carrot Seed Oil-an underestimated, misunderstood, and powerful anti-aging ingredient, this pungent and soothing oil has SPF properties, protects stem cells, stimulates cell regeneration, and boosts collagen. Carrot seed oil is proven in many studies to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, support fast healing, reverses photo-aging, and reduce crepey skin.

Bath Salts (in sets only)

Used as a foot soak or whole body soak, this detoxifying bath formula softens skin, relaxes tired muscles, draws out toxins, and pulls you into a spa-like restorative space.

Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom salt)- absorbed through the skin, rebalancing deficiencies and relaxes muscles, Epsom salts can fend off soreness from exercise and speeds recovery. Lip Scrub

A perfectly gentle and delicious way to exfoliate the delicate skin of our lips. If you have buildup or flakiness around your lips, this is your new best friend. With a clean finger or scrub tool, scoop up a small amount and gently massage into lips and surrounding skin for as long as feels comfortable without irritating your skin. Hair Oil

A nutritive blend of hair health focused oils for a little extra on those dry, staticky days. Start with a drop or two rubbed in the palms and applies lightly over the ends of damp, clean hair. Dry as you normally would. Work up to more product from there if necessary. Can also be used as a treatment before washing.

Sunflower Oil- A deeply emollient, yet light feeling oil, sunflower is a lovely choice for sensitive skin. 100% organic and cold-pressed, sunflower is also known to be softening, acne-combating, antiaging and antimicrobial, providing excellent moisture and frizz control while being light enough not to weigh hair down.
