Tallow Deodorant

I developed this deodorant over several years of experimentation with commercial natural deodorants, homemade recipes, bouts of no deodorant, and lots of concern over the current state of our armpits. Most days I can get away with nothing, and I do appreciate the unencumbered functions of our beautifully unique biologies...but there are certainly days where the people around me deserve a reprieve. This formula has been man tested, dance class tested, and hot summer day tested among many friends and now I happily share it with you.
This blend is appropriate for everyone with armpits (and it's useful for everywhere else too!) and eliminates the huge risks we take when applying chemicals to the sensitive tissue around our lymphatic system.
This is for a 30ml size tube of natural tallow based deodorant. This product WILL melt if left in heat and sun, if this occurs, place in the freezer or fridge upright for a bit to reharden.
Ingredients:
- 100% organic, grass-fed tallow-creates the base, providing a clean nutrient dense skin food that's breathable and supple.
- Organic beeswax-creates the structure and holds moisture in the skin.
- Organic arrowroot powder-deodorizing and leaves a silky skin feel, great for reducing friction for athletes.
- Magnesium hydroxide - an anhydrous form of magnesium that provides exceptional odor control and a heavenly skin feel.
- Zinc oxide - you know this one in sunscreen as a natural, clean mineral barrier for prolonged sun exposure and protection...it's also an amazing odor neutralizing ingredient! The same way it can leave a bit of a haze on your face, you'll want to rub it into your armpits a little to minimize risk of hazing your clothes.
- Zeolite clay - a high quality zeolite clay will selectively seek out and bind to heavy metals, helping detoxify your skin and neutralize the toxins that stink producing bacteria feed off of.
- Sage + Lavender essential oil, both very well known for their antibacterial and soothing properties also provide a lovely earthy scent.
If you're new to natural skin care and are having a funky transition in the smell department, try a bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar mask on your pits, the very same as you would do for your face! This will help draw out the toxins that have built up over the years and shorten undue funky transitions. See also my page on switching over to natural body care and what to expect.
